Fatherhood and Healthy Marriage

CEDA offers a number of programs through Fatherhood and Male Involvement services that include Read to Me Dad Day, Male Sports Day, and Economic Stability and Employment. These services work to equip single-parent fathers and males from low-income backgrounds with the skills they need to succeed in life.

  1. Do you think there are enough programs available to assist single-parent fathers and males from low-income backgrounds?
  2. What can be done to help males who have been unemployed for a long period of time transition back into the workforce?
  3. What can be done to create healthier relationships between fathers and their children?

Yes it is very important to recognize the roll a father plays in a home. With this it will allow individuals to see how a father can make a positive impact on their child. Men over time have been filling like they are not needed, and this will help restore some of that confidence that has slip away from today's society.

Men play a significant role in the life of a family. There is strength in numbers. The positive impact of a man in the home most times, encourages the children and gives encouragement to the mate that there is some support.

Parenting is one of most difficult challenges in life but also the most rewarding. It demands the commitment and determination of two people. Children need the involvement of their fathers in a positive manner. They need to have a male role model in which to aspire too.

I feel that a conference such as this will be very beneficial for men regardless if they are married with children or a single parent. To inform men that there are options available to them that they could benefit from sends a strong message that there is help for them if they are unemployed, looking to put themselves back into the workforce, or looking for ways to improve and maintain a positive relationship with their children. It also provides positive reinforcement to men that may have felt like there is no way out of their situation. Options provide hope and hope provides change.

Fathers need support and education to have healthier relationships with their children because we grow up in a society with stereotypes and myths that need to be broken down. Right now there are children suffering from bullying. Sometimes this happens because the children do not know how to stand up for themselves or they feel uncomfortable expressing themselves because of the messages they receive including from within their own family. Fathers need to understand this. When fathers read with their children they create positive studying habits as well as bonding for life.
